This workshop will be taught by not just one BUT TWO instructors: the dream team of Bryan Peterson and Mike Shaw, aka “Mr. Magic of the Night Skies”. Read more about Dr. Shaw below but know that you will be in very capable hands in this workshop with these two gifted photography instructors.
Imagine FOUR to FIVE HOURS of GOLDEN LIGHT EVERY DAY and EIGHT HOURS of a STAR FILLED SKY and AURORA EVERY NIGHT! The days are short this time of year so as the sun comes up it stays close to the horizon, bathing the Norwegian landscape in a constant stream of golden/blue/magenta light. And then the stars come out and since this workshop takes place with but a sliver of a moon, we will have the opportunity to shoot the clear night skies, EVERY NIGHT, weather permitting, of course. This workshop is an epic photographic opportunity to shoot around the clock in what can best be described as the ultimate landscape photographer’s dream!
This workshop is dedicated to Northern Lights, and students can expect amazing coastal landscapes along with the numerous vistas and daily outings to the many nearby villages that make this area of Norway one of the most picturesque and memorable.
February 17: Students will take a regional flight from Oslo to Evenes and then we will have our Meet and Greet at the Sure Hotel in Evenes, Norway.
February 18 -23: On the morning of the February 18, we drive to our ‘home’ in Skreda/Leknes, for the next five days and nights.
February 23: On the morning of February 23, we will pack up and take a leisurely drive back to Evenes, stopping along the way to take advantage of the beautiful and picturesque landscapes. Students will take a regional which will depart Evenes to Oslo in the early evening.
Dr. Mike Shaw is an internationally acclaimed astrophotographer, speaker and the author of “Creative Nightscapes and Time-Lapses,” (2018) and “The Complete Guide to Landscape Astrophotography,” (2017). He is currently working on his third book, “The Beginner’s Guide to Astrophotography (2023).” In addition to his photography workshops and webinars, he offers interactive online lessons for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and helped create the video tutorials for the Planit Pro app. He taught Night Photography and Time-Lapses in the Bryan Peterson School of Photography for five years, led an interactive Nightscapes Star Party Live! weekly on Slooh.com for two years, and taught Night Photography and Photoshop classes at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum for four years. He licenses his work through Science Photo Library in London, and is a Delegate to the International Dark Sky Association.
NOTE(s):
- The workshop fees include all ground transportation beginning upon arrival in Evenes, as well as five-nights lodging in one of the three fully equipped and modern cabins in the town of Skreda/Leknes. These cabins offer all the comforts of home, with one bedroom and bath downstairs and two bedrooms and a bath upstairs. Each cabin provides a complete kitchen, dining, living room and outside deck on the water. We will work with students to enable couples and friends to stay together in the cabins. Additionally, we will stop at the local grocery store and students will have no trouble finding something to eat and/or cook in the cabins.
- Students will be responsible for arranging and paying for round trip flights between Oslo and Evenes, as well as lodging at the *Recommended Hotel in Evenes on the night of the Meet and Greet.
- Flight information for the domestic flights between Oslo and Evenes will be provided to registered students a few months in advance of the workshop dates, allowing ample time for students to make reservations.

We will have a Meet and Greet on February 17 at 7 PM in the lobby of the Sure Hotel where we discuss student goals and objectives, and Bryan and Mike will provide an overview and rough agenda for the workshop.
